If your goal is to improve your r & b, pop, rock or country sound, then you won’t be spending time working on classical arias. If your goal is to improve your choral or classical singing, you won’t be spending time working on the latest pop hit. And if your goal is to be versatile enough to audition for various different types of musicals, pursue a conservatory voice diploma program and sing in a choir, time will be spent working on both contemporary commercial and classical material.
Everyone progresses differently. Your experiences and musical background will affect your rate of learning and times will vary according to your goal. Achieving a conservatory diploma may takes years, as opposed to learning to sing with more confidence and ease. Just as becoming a proficient, versatile singer will take much more time and study than learning a single song. With practice though, progress and improvement should be seen in a relatively short time, with some students making noticeable improvements in their first lesson.
Email or call the studio to discuss setting up a meeting time, and prepare a song of your choice to sing when we meet. If you are a beginner you can sing something as simple as "O Canada" or "Happy Birthday".
